Mutation in Corona Virus is Continue

Image
A new variant may not be needed for another Covid wave, a researcher from South Africa has said. Dr Tulio De Oliveira, Director of CERI, has concluded that BA.4 and BA.5 now detected in South Africa could lead to the next surge. He said, "So, it looks that Covid-19 may be evolving differently and that we may not need a new variant to cause a new wave of infection. We are seeing this with BA.4 and 5 in SA and with BA.2.12.1 on the east coast of the USA." "We are all tired of this virus, but he may not be tired of us. We need now to take seriously the decreasing immunity from previous infections and @sigallab show that vaccination is much more reliable to maintain immunity than only infection," he said. He also spoke about the three main theories behind the emergence of the contagious Omicron variant which triggered a third wave in the world. He said, "There are 3 main theories for the emergence of Omicron: A) Unsampled location, B) Chronic infections & C) an...

US-FDA has approved Eli Lilly and Company's new ultra rapid-acting insulin Lyumjev™ (Insulin lispro-aabc injection) for type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Image
The US FDA granted approval to Eli Lilly’s Lyumjev™ (insulin lispro-aabc injection, 100 units/mL and 200 units/mL). This is a new rapid fast-acting insulin with a novel formulation to speed up the absorption of insulin into the blood stream and reduce glucose levels post meals, mimicking natural insulin’s post prandial action. Eli Lilly has another fast-acting insulin Humalog™ in the market. In comparative studies, Lyumjev™ has demonstrated faster absorption profile compared to Humalog™. The rapid insulin time-action profile can be attributed to two excipients in the formulation: microdose of treprostinil which increases absorption through vasodilation and sodium citrate which increases local vascular permeability. The approval of the drug was based on two phase 3 studies: PRONTO T1D and PRONTO T2D. In both studies Lyumjev™ demonstrated superior action compared to Humalog in preventing blood glucose spikes one and two hours after meal. Earlier this year, the product was approved ...

How Delta variant of COVID 19 is causing disaster across the world

Image
A recent study by All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) claimed that the presence of Delta variant is predominantly found even after getting a single dose or both doses of Covid-19 vaccine. According to some experts, both doses of the Covid-19 vaccines are needed for strong protection against the Delta variant. A highly transmissible variant of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) is now rapidly spreading across the globe, causing more stringent control in some countries and derailing lockdown plans of others. The Delta variant, first detected in India, has been listed as 'variant of concern' by the World Health Organization (WHO). Here's how the Delta variant is affecting the world: The Zimbabwean government on Saturday announced a two-week localised lockdown for Hurungwe and Kariba districts after detecting the Delta variant of Covid-19. The government said that more than 40 cases were recorded in the last three days. The UK government is considering a delay of up...

CORONAVIRUS: AIIMS Study Claims Delta Variant Is Highly Infectious Even for Those Who Are Vaccinated.

Image
As the number of coronavirus cases in the country subsides, government officials continue to encourage people to take their vaccine shots as soon as possible. While people are still sceptical and have their own reservations about vaccine efficacy, experts believe that it is the only possible way we can curb the impact of the pandemic. On the other hand, the growing number of variants has also become a cause of concern. The Delta Variant, which was originally detected in India in October last year, is said to be highly infectious. According to separate studies conducted by AIIMS (Delhi) and the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), it was suggested that the Delta variant can escape antibodies from one or both the doses of Covidshield and Covaxin. 1)What is the Delta Variant? -The Delta variant, scientifically termed as B.1.617.2 of the COVID-19 infections, refers to the merging of two mutations of a virus strain that go on to form a third, super infectious strain. The B.1.617 vari...

China Reports First Human Case of H10N3 Bird Flu

Image
China has reported the first case of human infection with the H10N3 strain of bird flu from the country’s eastern Jiangsu province, China’s National Health Commission said on Tuesday. The patient, a 41-year-old man from Zhenjiang city, is currently in a stable condition and meets discharge standards, the state-run CGTN TV reported. Health authorities played down the outbreak, saying the case was a sporadic virus transmission from poultry to humans, and the risk of causing a pandemic was extremely low. The patient was diagnosed as having the H10N3 avian influenza virus on May 28, National Health Commission said in a statement without elaborating on how the man had got infected with the virus. No other cases of human infection with H10N3 have previously been reported globally, H10N3 is a low pathogenic or relatively less severe strain of the virus in poultry and the risk of it spreading on a large scale is very low. There are many different strains of avian influenza in Chi...

Antibody Cocktail Therapy Given to First Covid-19 Patient in Ahmedabad

Image
After the therapy was approved in India earlier this month, CIMS Hospital became the first private facility in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad to administer an antibody cocktail to a Covid-19 patient. The monoclonal antibody cocktail treatment was launched in India just last week for treating mild Covid-19 patients. A 38-year-old diabetic male patient with Covid-19 symptoms were administered the antibody cocktail of Casirivimab and Imdevimab . CIMS is the first hospital in Ahmedabad to begin this treatment. According to Doctors, the cocktail treatment is recommended only in the early stages of the Covid-19 infection and for high-risk patients. It is the same treatment that former US President Donald Trump received last year. The patient we administered the combination medication today has diabetes and hence belongs to the high-risk group. The high mortality in young males during the second wave has been a grave concern for the medical fraternity. This medication is not recommended fo...

Struggling Healthcare System in India

Image
India’s healthcare system has been battling various issues, including the low number of institutions and less-than-adequate human resources for quite a while now. Essentially, a three-tier structure defined the Indian healthcare system- primary, secondary, and tertiary care services. The Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) states that the delivery of primary healthcare is provided to the rural population through sub-center, primary health center (PHC), and community health center (CHC), while secondary care is delivered through district and sub-district hospitals. On the other hand, tertiary care is extended at regional/central level institutions or super-specialty hospitals. While there is an urgency to focus on all the three levels of primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare, it is imperative that the government look towards improving primary healthcare as a public good. Reasons of struggling India’s healthcare system: Lack of infrastructure. Shortage of efficient and trained...

Now, White Fungus in COVID Patients, Which is More Dangerous than Black Fungus?

Image
The rising cases of Black Fungus infection in several states of India, four cases of White Fungus infection have been reported from Patna in Bihar. It is to be noted that White Fungus is considered more dangerous than Black Fungus. As the central government asks states to notify black fungus or mucormycosis an epidemic, an infection called white fungus has also been found to affect some people. White Fungus infection is more dangerous than black fungus infection because it affects lungs as well as other parts of the body including nails, skin, stomach, kidney, brain, private parts and mouth. White fungus also infects the lungs and an infection similar to COVID-19 is detected when HRCT is performed on the infected patient. Causes of White Fungus: This infection can be caused due to low immunity, or if people come in contact with things that contain these moulds like water, etc. Thus, sanitation is important to prevent this infection. Risk factors: COVID-19 patients are more pr...

DCGI Approves Anti-COVID Drug "2-deoxy-D-glucose (2-DG)" Developed by DRDO for Emergency Use.
